Message from the President

Bill Danola

It’s that time of year. The fairway grass is grown a little longer in anticipation of winter weather. The greens welcome the cool evenings and are at their best, fast but receptive. The first evening frost is not far off and the bermuda will go dormant. We all know the challenges that brings. I am anticipating the tight lies around the greens especially when a bunker lies between my ball and a short sided pin. While we don’t have much of a winter it nevertheless has a significant impact on the golf course. I may be crazy but I actually enjoy the change. I would not want winter conditions as a steady diet but as a change it presents a different challenge. The occasional mud ball is something I could live without but to be fair it doesn’t make much difference given my skill level despite my pretensions to the contrary.

By the time you read this, the Thanksgiving Day battle between the inside staff and outside staff will be a week old. Of course, it doesn’t really matter which side prevails. No club I have been a member of before Rancho Santa Fe hosted such an event. I thoroughly enjoy taking a break from the day’s chores and spending time with friends at such a unique golf and social event. It is just another example of what makes this club so special. Hopefully you had the opportunity to attend the tree lighting and did some of your holiday shopping at the Holiday Gift Boutique.

It’s also that time of year when we get to celebrate the holidays with family members, some of whom we may not have seen for some time.. It’s a special time to reconnect and to realize that social media has it’s limits. I wish you and your family the best of holiday seasons.

Vaya Con Dios
